Product Information & Details

Vitamin C is our major water-soluble antioxidant present in blood plasma and cells. This means that it helps prevent oxidation of other water-soluble molecules that could create free radicals – harmful molecules that accelerate the ageing process and cause degenerative disease. Although humans can no longer manufacture vitamin C, fortunately it’s abundant in many fruits and vegetables, and supplements.

Vitamin C is key for collagen production which is the protein that predominantly gives our skin its structure, hence its popularity in beauty products. Vitamin C also helps stimulate the immune system and supports the body’s resistance to stress. It is key in the production of brain neurotransmitters, the body’s main signalling mechanism.

What Is Magnesium Ascorbate?

Magnesium ascorbate is a non-acidic form of vitamin C, bound with magnesium. This combination not only makes it gentle on the stomach compared to other forms of vitamin C but also provides the added benefits of magnesium.

Citrus Bioflavonoids are typically used in health supplements to support the immune system. Bioflavonoids are used as an aid to enhance the action of vitamin C, to support blood circulation, as antioxidants, and to treat allergies, viruses, or arthritis and other inflammatory conditions.

Montmorency cherries are rich in immune-boosting compounds. They contain vitamins and antioxidants that help strengthen the immune system, protecting the body against infections and reducing inflammation. Regular consumption of Montmorency cherries may contribute to overall immune health.

Montmorency cherries = ANTI-INFLAMMATORY & GOUT

In a study by Northumbria University and another by University of Michigan, it was found that Montmorency cherries did in fact improve anti inflammatory properties in the body by lowering Uric acid levels. High levels of Uric acid in the blood can be linked to gout, as well as inflammation in joints, and both studies found Montmorency Cherry to lower levels of Uric acid. These studies were however conducted on healthy subjects, so more research could be needed on patients suffering from gout.

In another study by Northumbria University, Montmorency Cherry was found to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress in cyclists after a high intensity simulated race. In relation to strength exercises, the University of Exeter concluded in a 2011 study that Montmorency Cherry consumption “improved the recovery of isometric muscle strength after intensive exercise perhaps due to attenuation of the oxidative damage induced by the damaging exercise”

What is Green Tea?

Like all other teas, green tea comes from the leaves of the Camellia Sinensis plant. Many variables during the processing of the tea leaves affect the taste and look of the leaves, with the level of oxidation that they undergo determining the type of tea. Green teas undergo very minimal oxidation and are roasted for only a short amount of time after the harvest, while black teas are fully oxidised. Green tea is one of the least processed types of tea.

Green tea strengthens the immune system because it protects the body against oxidants and radicals. It contains a powerful antioxidant called Epigallocatechin (EGCC) that helps protect cells from damage.  The catechin found in green tea has also been linked to helping with weight loss and blood sugar level regulation. The delicate drink increases the number of “regulatory T cells” that have a great therapeutic potential to influence the immune function and suppression of autoimmune diseases.

What is Lysine?

Lysine is one of the nine essential amino acids that our bodies cannot produce on their own, meaning we must obtain it through our diet. It plays multiple roles in the body, including:

  • Protein Synthesis: Lysine is critical for creating proteins, which play a role in muscle growth and repair. This is particularly relevant for athletes and those engaging in regular physical activity.
  • Calcium Absorption: This amino acid improves calcium retention in the body, which is essential for bone health.
  • Immune Function: Lysine is thought to block the activity of arginine, another amino acid that some viruses thrive on, thereby potentially supporting a healthy immune response.
  • Mood Support: Some studies suggest that lysine may positively influence mood and anxiety levels through its impact on neurotransmitter function.

Given its range of roles, it’s evident that adequate lysine intake is vital for overall health, and many individuals may benefit from integrating it into their wellness routine.

The Synergistic Effect of Lysine and Vitamin C

Enhanced Collagen Production

One of the most significant benefits of combining lysine and vitamin C is the enhanced production of collagen. Collagen is a structural protein critical for maintaining skin elasticity, cartilage integrity, and bone strength. Here’s how the combination works:

  • Stabilizing Collagen Structure: Vitamin C is necessary for hydroxylating proline and lysine during collagen formation, thus stabilizing its structure. When taken together, lysine reinforces this process, resulting in improved skin elasticity and a stronger matrix for connective tissues.

Cardiovascular Health Support

Research indicates that lysine and vitamin C can work together to promote cardiovascular health:

  • Healthy Blood Flow: The combination can help support normal circulation, which is vital for overall cardiovascular wellness. Lysine may prevent the buildup of arterial plaque by competing with lipoprotein(a) binding sites in the vascular system.
  • Cholesterol Management: Vitamin C is believed to inhibit cholesterol production in the body. When paired with lysine, this combination may aid in managing cholesterol levels effectively, contributing to heart health.
